Harvest Moon: Meaning behind phenomenon revealed
The October Full Moon is the 10th named Full Moon phases of 2019. This month’s Full Moon peaks on Sunday when its Earth-facing side is totally illuminated by the Sun. However, this month’s full Hunter’s Moon will appear significantly smaller than usual, at only 14 percent the size of an average Full Moon.
How did October’s Full Moon get its name?

The October Full Moon’s usual name actually dates back to the North American Native American tribes.
These tribes chose names for the Full Moons, which were subsequently adopted by European settlers.
During autumn, when sunset and moonrise are close together, it allowed farmers to continue to be active into the night, as the fields were illuminated by moonlight.
This meant last month’s Full Moon was dubbed the Harvest Moon as crops could be harvested under the moonlight.

In October, hunters were able to track and kill animals to stockpile for the long winter months due to this special light.
October’s Full Moon is also referred to as the Blood Moon or Sanguine Moon due to its beautiful red-orange hue.
Science journalist Deborah Byrd explains that its colour is due to its positioning.
She said: “The location of the Moon near the horizon that causes the Hunter’s Moon — or any Full Moon — to look big and orange in colour.”

October’s Hunter’s Moon is in Aries, the Fire sign known for its passion, energy, and temper.
This Hunter’s Moon “exactly aspects transformative Pluto,” adds astrologer Lisa Stardust.
She told Refinery 29: “This luminary will bring sudden and drastic change — falls from grace and power, as well as transformation within relationships.
“Abuses of power and triangular relationship will blow up, as we are all standing up for ourselves.”
