Gordon Ramsay says steak will end up perfect if you follow easy 15-minute method

Gordon Ramsay has revealed the straightforward technique needed to prepare the perfect steak, and it starts with a 15-minute rule. The renowned chef, famous for Kitchen Nightmares and Hell's Kitchen, recently appeared on BBC Radio 2 for a chat with Scott Mills, where he offered some expert guidance.

During his appearance on the Scott Mills Breakfast Show on Wednesday (February 18), he responded to a listener's question about avoiding a tough steak. Milly, whose father is a butcher, requested a "fool-proof" approach to cooking the "perfect sirloin". She mentioned that she'd attempted timing and the "pressing the base of your thumb" technique, but to no avail.

Gordon then outlined a guide to the cooking process, stressing the significance of allowing your steak to "rest".

He said: "Right, Milly in Portrush, first of all, take that out of the fridge literally 15 minutes before you cook it, okay? Nicely season it, a touch of olive oil, a little bit of garlic, rosemary.

"And then the hot pan needs to be absolutely screaming. You need to sear that; once it's seared, base it, and let it rest. Do not slice it piping hot. Slicing it piping hot is gonna bleed it dry. Let your steak rest, girl.

"Please! Come on; your dad should have taught you that, as a butcher."

This comes as the celebrity chef launches his new six-part Netflix docuseries, Being Gordon Ramsay, which became available on the streaming service today (Wednesday, February 18).

Being Gordon Ramsay follows the father-of-six as he navigates family, his empire, and his latest venture - five culinary concepts within the City of London's 22 Bishopsgate, a 278-metre skyscraper.

In the show, Gordon described how his "torrid relationship" with his father has inspired him to be a better dad, revealing that he "called me a snob once".

He said: "I, sadly, had a torrid relationship with my father. My father called me a snob once. And I said, 'No, definitely not a snob. I just want to get out of the s*** mess I was born in.'"

Gordon also discussed how he remembers weekends when he would watch his dad "ruin his life through alcohol", saying "it's hard" when somebody is an alcoholic.

He added: "It's hard, isn't it, when someone's an alcoholic? It's very hard to relate to that, because you're just... you're nervous.

"You're worried about, you know, hitting the end of the bottle and seeing that bottle of Bacardi disappear, because you know what happens at the end of that."
