Crumbles are super popular puddings due to their versatility, with the ability to add blackberries or even peaches.

A typical apple crumble contains stewed apples along with a crumble topping which again can be made in a variety of different ways.

They often can be quite time-consuming to make, however, so I recently opted to make an air fryer crumble, and it was absolutely delicious.

Air fryers cook food much quicker, meaning they can help to reduce energy bills over time.

This recipe makes one large serving, or two small ones and is perfect when served with ice cream or custard.

Ingredients:

For the filling:

600g Brambley apples, peeled, cored and roughly chopped

One teaspoon of cinnamon or ginger

Two tablespoons of caster sugar

Two tablespoons of dried berries, optional

For the crumble:

100g butter

150g plain flour

75g demerara sugar

Two tablespoons of porridge oats

Cream, custard or vanilla ice cream to serve

Method:

I started by preheating the air fryer to 180C before putting the apples, cinnamon and sugar in a heatproof dish.

It’s important to add two tablespoons of water at this stage to avoid the apples turning dry and then cook for 10 to 12 minutes.

At this stage, the apples were soft and super juicy so it was time to make the crumble.

To make the crumble, rub the butter into the flour, then stir in the sugar, oats and a pinch of salt.

Mix carefully until you have a coarse breadcrumb-like consistency, with some small pieces and large pieces.

Stir the apple mixture, then sprinkle over the crumble in an even layer.

Air fry for a further 10 minutes until golden brown before cooling slightly, then serve warm with cream, custard or ice cream.

This apple crumble was absolutely delicious and made so easy in the air fryer.

The crumble topping was cooked to perfection and complimented the juicy apples perfectly.
