If you're looking for a new pub to visit which boasts delicious food, an impressive drinks selection and a stunning interior to relax in, then look no further than the Greyhound Inn.

This welcoming pub in Pettistree, Suffolk, was recently crowned as the regional winner in The Good Food Guide's list of best local restaurants for 2024.

Thanks to its 'winning combination' of country pub good looks and a top-notch food menu to go along with it, with owners - husband and wife Will Orrock and Cassidy Hughes - and head chef Adam Spicer are delighted with their win.

The Greyhound has made a name for itself locally since reopening in November 2022. With Cassidy being an interior designer and Will formerly in advertising, the pair have brought with them an informal and relaxed style of hospitality alongside a keen eye for design, with the aspirations of making a pub everyone wished was their local.

This pub really stood out to customers as it strikes the 'perfect balance' between a cosy pub and a serious foodie destination, and was described as a 'gem of a village pub' by the Good Food Guide. The menu is always chopping and changing based on what's in season, and fans say it 'never disappoints'.

Delicious food

If you're looking for a pub which boasts 'proper cooking' then the Greyhound Inn is the place to be. Head chef Adam Spicer uses fresh and local ingredients full of flavour to craft decadent dishes that you wouldn't always expect to find on a pub menu, with everything being made in-house.

Some of the starters at the moment include a light and crispy Isle of Wight tomato tart with pistachio pesto, and smoked eel paired with apple, walnuts and horseradish.

On the main menu you'll find local delights such as wild Suffolk bass which pairs perfectly with maple farm courgettes, pea anolini and pernod sauce, and a decadent Old Spot pork chop served with peaches, fennel, sage and lemony potatoes.

And if you've got a sweet tooth, be sure to leave some room for dessert - delicious treats such as wild strawberry ice cream, apricot and almond tarts and cucumber sorbet are just some examples of how you can finish up your meal.

When the sun is shining, guests can make use of the pub’s garden where wood roasted sharing dishes are available Friday-Sunday.

'A proper boozer'

Reporters from the Good Food Guide have also hailed the Greyhound Inn for its excellent drink offerings that are perfect for enjoying with friends, family and loved ones.

Punters are urged to check out the great-value bar snacks – such as a ploughman’s including homemade pork pie and house pickles. This is perfect with a pint, or a glass from a wine list which is fit for every occasion – be it a classy Burgundy, a steely Austrian Riesling from the Arndorfer winery or a simple lunchtime sip from the Languedoc.

There's also an extensive cocktail list featuring some seasonal choices and classics such as negronis, martinis and margaritas. And if you don't drink, there are plenty of non-alcoholic beers and ales, with the team always crafting seasonal syrups that are ideal for non-drinkers.

Owners Will Orrock and Cassidy Hughes said of the award: "We're absolutely over the moon to receive this award from The Good Food Guide! Here at the Greyhound Pettistree, we love making everyone feel at home, whether you’re popping in for a quiet pint of local ale at the bar, a simple lunch, or a celebratory feast. Our mission has always been to deliver a top-notch local pub experience, and we pour our heart and soul into it.'
