The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued a warning about a vegetarian pasta sauce that is not safe to eat, which is why the food is being recalled.

Waitrose stocked Crosta and Mollica Sugo Alla Norma Aubergine, Ricotta and Tomato pasta sauce, which would have been on the supermarket's shelves.

However, the popular jar has been taken off the shelf, and customers are advised to return the product as it could contain pieces of glass.

The FSA confirmed Crosta and Mollica Sugo Alla Norma Aubergine, Ricotta and Tomato pasta sauce is "unsafe to eat" and customers are urged not to consume the item.

Instead, customers are asked to return the product to their local Waitrose and Partners branch for a refund.

The supermarket apologised that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused.

Elsewhere, Aldi is recalling Ashfields Grill Chinese Pork Loin Steaks and BBQ Pork Loin Steaks.

Both these products have been recalled because of a labelling error, which shows incorrect use-by dates.

Aldi said: "As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling Chinese Pork Loin Steaks and BBQ Pork Loin Steaks because a small number of products have had the incorrect use-by date applied of June 22.

"Customers are asked to return this product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given."

Aldi added: "We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation."

Most recently, Tesco recalled its Sandwich Pickle due to the possible presence of glass.

The sandwich pickle sold in a jar "poses a safety risk if consumed", the FSA warned, which is why customers can expect a full refund if they return the jar to the store.
