Jaguar I-Pace takes aim at Tesla Model X as release date is REVEALED during its final test
JAGUAR I-Pace final testing took place in Los Angeles over the past week. Its specs, release and price have now been released but how do they shape up next to the Tesla Model X rival?
Jaguar I Pace final testing was completed in Los Angeles this week
Jaguar I-Pace 2018 has just completed its final testing in Los Angeles ahead of it going on sale next year.
A production prototype version of the car debuted over a year ago at the LA Auto Show was seen travelling from Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, to Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo.
The trip was made after one reservation holder asked if the car’s electric range would be able to complete her favourite road trip along California's West Coast.
It managed to drive the 200 miles from Sunset Boulevard to Morro Bay on a single charge.
Ian Hoban, Jaguar Vehicle Line Director, said: “After 1.5 million global test miles, the I-PACE is ready for production and is proven to deliver long distances on a single charge.
“Jaguar's first battery electric vehicle will also be fast to charge; our target is a zero to 80 per cent charge being achievable in a short break."
Full specification and pricing for Jaguar's electric performance SUV will be announced in March 2018 when order books will officially open.
Before the car goes on sale Jaguar has revealed some spec for the vehicle, which would see it rival the Tesla Model X.
The car will also be able to travel from 0-62mph in around four seconds, claims the manufacturer.
In terms of the cars price the Jaguar previously said that it would be 10 per cent more expensive than the F-Pace.
The Jaguar I-PACE Concept five-seater sports car
Assuming that the 90kWh battery version producing 310 miles of range, is the top of the line model and costs around £70,000 (based on F-Type prices) it still costs less than both the Model X 75D, which it is faster than and has greater range, and the 100D which it is trumped on range by.
There could be lower tiered I-Pace models which would be produced closer to the £45,000/£50,000 of the lower spec F-Paces.
It also beats both of these cars from 0-60mph and matches the top speed of the 100D.
The Model X is however wider, longer and taller than the I-Pace offering more space inside and even a seven-seat configuration.
The Jaguar I-Pace will hope to challenge the Tesla Model X
I-Pace does have a nice looking interior and looks more luxurious and refined than the Tesla from teaser images of the vehicle.
We won’t be able to compare these vehicles until the I-Pace production version debuts and the two vehicles can be compared side-by-side.
Other things we know about the upcoming I-Pace is that it will be able to regenerate 80 per cent of its battery in around 30 minutes.
It also has a low drag coefficient of 0.29 and a 12-inch touchscreen controlling the infotainment system.
