French carmaker’s cushioning tech used by Premier League pros in new hybrid game.
Citroen enlisted the help of Arsenal Football Club to help promote its new Airbump technology
Citroën has used its Airbump technology – a series of rubberised air cushions on the outside of the Citroën C4 Cactus – as part of a new hybrid game combining football and pool called, not unexpectedly, footpool.
The French carmaker teamed up with four of Arsenal’s star players – Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny, Mesut Özil and Per Mertesacker – to demonstrate how the Airbumps replicate the cushions on a pool table.
The stars played a France vs Germany doubles match (Giroud and Koscielny against Özil and Mertesacker) and also staged a trick shot masterclass on the footpool ‘table’ – although it’s not something that could be fitted in any den or most pub lounges.

The Airbumps are a major feature of the Citroën C4 Cactus and are designed to protect the bodywork from minor bumps and scrapes – in the supermarket car parks, for example, where the Cactus’ target audience of family drivers often find themselves.
In the game of footpool, the side cushions feature Airbump panels to deflect the balls and to allow clever trick shots as part of the game.
The France vs Germany match not only showcased the skill set of the players, but also brought out the competitive spirit of the Arsenal first-team players.

Like a game of pool, the team who potted all of its balls first, won.
You’ll have to watch the video to see who won, but let’s just remind you that Germany was involved.
Footpool is becoming popular in the UK as fans perfect the skill of potting balls with their feet, rather than a pool cue.
