Max has conducted numerous long-form investigations into UK protest groups, including Just Stop Oil and Palestine Action. In the summer of 2023, he revealed details of Animal Rising's plan to hijack the Epsom Derby. In January 2024, he uncovered Palestine Action's plot to shut down the London Stock Exchange, resulting in six arrests. And in December 2024 he exposed Youth Demand's plan to swarm five UK cities on Armistice Day.
He has also reported on the migrant crisis from northern France and from asylum centres in the UK.
Besides direct action movements and the migration crisis, he is particularly interested in the West's relationship with China and emerging technological security threats.
