Halifax set to close 21 more bank branches in 2023 - full list of closures
Halifax is to close a number of branches in the rest of 2023, affecting those who prefer to conduct their affairs in-person.
Bank branch closures have been rife in recent years, adding up to 5,355 since 2015, according to consumer group Which?. One popular high street name closing some of its branches’ doors for good is Halifax.
Halifax has said it doesn’t always “add up” to keep a branch open, and so it sometimes chooses to shutter certain branches.
Lloyds Banking Group, which oversees Halifax, has been closing numerous branches across the UK since 2022.
It has attributed these closures to a decline in footfall, as more people turn to online services.
A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group previously said: “Our customers have more choice than ever in how they bank with us.

Pensioners can get £2,300 a year more income today - but this may not last
The last 18 months of rocketing inflation and interest rates have transformed the way pensioners can generate income in retirement. Yet this moment won't last forever. At some point, interest rates will peak and start falling again. When that happens, the opportunity could pass.
“As our customers do more online, visits to some branches have fallen by as much as 85 percent over the last five years.
“Branches play an important part in our strategy but we need to have them in the right places, where they are well-used.
"We’ll continue to invest in branches that are being used regularly, alongside our online, mobile app and telephone services.”
As bank branches across the UK close, many customers will be worried about how to access their services.

This is particularly the case if they are uncomfortable with online banking, or unable to access this service.
However, Halifax is taking steps to help those who want to bank in-person.
The bank’s website states: “When making changes to our branch network, we always look to understand the impact on our customers including how they continue to access banking services.”
As a result, the bank has said its “community bankers” may visit an area for a short while after a branch closes.

They are likely to set up in a local venue with a dedicated space to help people who wish to bank in-person.
The office space will provide the opportunity for Britons to speak in private, and there is no need to arrange an appointment.
Community bankers can:
- Guide customers through the ways they can bank with Halifax
- Support with account enquiries for customers.
The Halifax website provides further details on the current locations of community bankers, and where they will be visiting next.
Halifax also states people can conduct their everyday banking at their local Post Office.
