Top Gun 2 Maverick: These THREE stars in running to play Goose’s SON in Tom Cruise sequel
TOP GUN 2: Maverick is casting Goose’s son and three big stars are in the running for the role in the Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer sequel.
Top Gun 2 needs 'Ghost Goose' says actor Anthony Edwards
Filming on the movie three decades in the making is already underway, but not everyone is cast.
Now The Hollywood Reporter writes that Top Gun 2 is looking for an actor to play Goose’s son.
Fans of the original movie will know Goose was the best friend of Cruise’s Maverick, played by Anthony Edwards.
And the 1986 classic even featured his son with Meg Ryan as the mother.
But now Top Gun: Maverick producers, Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer – have whittled the casting list down to just three stars for the grown-up version of Goose’s kid.
They are X-Men’s Nicholas Hoult, Hidden Figures’ Glen Powell and Whiplash’s Miles Teller.
According to insiders the three hopefuls have had a final round of testing this week in Clearwater, Florida where Cruise lives.
Meanwhile Val Kilmer has been confirmed to return as Iceman.
The Wrap reports “an individual with knowledge of the production” has confirmed the former Batman star is in Top Gun 2.
They claim: “A rep for Paramount declined to comment on the casting of Kilmer, who has been spotted around the San Diego hotel the studio has been using since production began last week.”
Kilmer has been vying for a return as Iceman in the sequel since it was announced in 2016.
Meanwhile Cruise has already shared the first look at Top Gun: Maverick.
Cruise took to his official Twitter account to share a picture of himself as Lt. Peter Mitchell once again.
The photograph shows the actor all geared up and facing a fighter jet, while sporting those classic aviators.
The picture is captioned: “Feel The Need.”
Cruise added, “#Day1”, implying that filming has now begun on Top Gun 2.
Top Gun 2: Maverick hits UK cinemas on July 12, 2019.
