AVENGERS INFINITY WAR may make a lot of money, but could still be considered a failure like Star Wars The Last Jedi, claims a box office pundit.

The Marvel epic is released in just under a month’s time and is guaranteed to make millions, but will it be enough to be considered a success?
Black Panther has been an unprecedented hit, smashing box office records left, right and centre.
Having made over $1.2 billion worldwide, it’s already the 12th highest grossing movie ever, has surpassed Avengers Assemble domestically and held box office No1 for five weeks – only Avatar achieved the latter.
With so much to live up to and the fact Avengers Infinity War features around 70 Marvel characters, could it seen as a disappointment?

Star Wars The Force Awakens made almost double what The Last Jedi did
Forbes’ box office pundit thinks so, pointing out that Star Wars The Last Jedi didn’t do quite as well as expected, despite making $1.3 billion worldwide. But why?
Well its predecessor The Force Awakens was such a big hit, making over $2 billion and becoming the third biggest film ever, that it basically overshadows its sequel.
So in a similar way Avengers Infinity War has a lot to live up to, not only because of the scale of its narrative, but also because of Black Panther’s success as a solo movie.
Forbes’ pundit points out how Black Panther was something of “a once-in-a-generation moviegoing event” like The Passion of the Christ, attracting an audience who don’t often go to the cinema.
Meanwhile Avengers Infinity War’s chances of success could be weighed on whether or not it beats Black Panther.
Of course in a way it is another Black Panther movie, since T’Challa features and the final act of the film has been confirmed as a huge battle in Wakanda.
Avengers Infinity War may rely on casual cinemagoers who haven’t seen all the MCU movies, but want to catch the climatic crossover.
After all Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, which is essentially Voldemort’s last stand at the Battle of Hogwarts (i.e. epic) is the highest grossing of that franchise at $1.34 billion.
Black Panther and Wakanda appear in Avengers Infinity War
Avengers Infinity War is released in the UK on April 26 and the US a day later
But fans shouldn’t forget that Avengers Infinity War is only part 1 of the finale, with untitled Avengers 4 concluding the last 10 years of movies in April 2019.
Perhaps the weight of success will be judged on that movie instead.
Avengers Infinity War will be released in UK cinemas on April 26, 2018.
