Batman V Superman famously wrapped up with the iconic character meeting his end, although it’s been a poorly kept secret that Cavill is starring in the new DC caper.
Recent trailers have shown him in flashbacks and dream sequences, and now he’s spoken about returning to the role.
“Being a part of this movie was very important because Superman is represented in that he’s only an ideal in this movie,” he told E!
“We feel the loss of that character in this movie because he’s not present anymore.”

He went on: “The example he set just by being is made all the stronger because of his lack of presence.
“And it’s always an honour to be part of that and highlight the true powers of Superman.”
Of his co-stars - including Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller among others - he added: “They are incredible people, amazing actors, and they put so much work into these characters.”
Justice League is set to open next week, and early social media reactions have been positive.
Cavill's return has been a badly-kept secret
However, eyebrows were raised when it was noted that the review embargo lifts suspiciously close to the first public screenings.
In recent times, this has sometimes been a sign that the verdicts from critics will be less than glowing - but we’ll have to wait and see.
Justice League is out on November 17.
