The actor will be seen once again as the hammer-wielding hero when Marvel’s latest blockbuster arrives in cinemas this week.
But it seems he thought very seriously about turning the part down.
He told the Sydney Morning Herald: "I remember the exact moment getting a call from from my lawyer and my manager saying 'You got the offer.'
"And then kind of going, 'Oh wow, cool. So what is it?'

“[They said] ’It's a superhero thing and it's a six-picture deal.'
"And we were like, 'That's a lot of films to sign up for. We should pass on this.'"
Luckily, he soon came to his senses - and Thor: Ragnarok has been picking up exceptional reviews from critics.
A clip released late last week showed Hemsworth in action, demonstrating why exactly Raganrok has been praised for its humour.

Jeff Goldblum is also one of the big draws, and he revealed on UK TV that he’s open to appearing more often in the MCU.
“I was lucky to be in this one,” he told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning.
“I’d love to do more, who knows. My character is a marvel, can’t die - at least in the comic books.”
Thor Ragnarok is out on October 24 in the UK.
