Debate has raged over how sensitive the character was to the Force before his tragic death in Episode 7: The Force Awakens - and, therefore, whether a return as a Force Ghost could be on the cards in Episode 8.

Pushed further by the interview, he added: “I can’t imagine it. But it is science fiction.

Rian Johnson rules out directing next Star Wars movie
Rian Johnson, the director, said earlier this week of the much-anticipated “shocks”: ”There are things that will shock the audience but you don’t want an empty surprise for the sake of it being a surprise.
“You want it to be an emotional story that makes sense that surprising things happen naturally in.
“So I hope those are the kind of things that will make audiences gasp when they see this movie.”
