Film reviews: Insyriated and The Lure
THE horrors of Syria are brought to life vividly in Insyriated, a tense drama that unfolds in one day in one flat.
A scene from Insyriated
INSYRIATED (Cert 15; 86mins)
Oum Yazan (Hiam Abbass) and her family are the last residents of a block of flats in Damascus. Their home is a sanctuary from the fighting that surrounds them but it starts to feel like a prison as snipers’ bullets hit ever closer and war comes knocking at their door. An intense, claustrophobic tale of the human costs of an impossible conflict.
THE LURE (Cert PG; 80mins)
In 2010 millionaire art dealer Forrest Fenn informed the world he had buried a treasure trove of gold and jewels in a small box in the vast Rocky Mountains. He even provided a cryptic poem with all the clues required to identify the location. The Lure follows some of the thousands of individuals who put their lives on hold for the adventure of a lifetime hunting for treasure. Is it a hoax? Are they gullible fools or brave dreamers? Those are the questions posed by this entertaining, low-key documentary.
VERDICT: 3/5
