The Good, The Bad, The Weird
THIS transfers the classic Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Western to Japanese-occupied Thirties’ Manchuria and transforms the story into one long, frantic scramble to gain possession of a treasure map.
Bounty hunter Park Do-won (Woo-sung Jung) is the good guy of the title, sadistic psycho Park Chang-yi (Byung-hun Lee) is the baddie and the role of the weird is expertly filled by Yoon Tae-goo (Kang-ho Song from The Host), who also provides much of the comic relief as a buffoonish thief.
Filled with shoot-outs, knife fights, amazing stuntwork and striking colours, this breathless yarn feels completely bonkers at times. It is fun but I still prefer Clint and his poncho.
