ALIEN: COVENANT director Ridley Scott has claimed that artificial intelligence could be more advanced than the public is aware.

Speaking in promotion of the new film - which features several examples of fictional AI, including Michael Fassbender’s robot characters - Scott’s fascination with advanced technology was clear.
“AI is much further advanced than they would care to discuss or admit,” he told Sky News.
“The Wright brothers got off the ground for 25 feet in 1910. We’re now seriously considering landing on Mars 100 years later. That is shocking.”
He added: “But the digital evolution - from Steve Jobs forward - is quantum. It’s amazing what’s happening.

“So who knows how that will save or destroy us over the next 30 years? I don’t know.”
Fassbender chipped in: “There is a theory that we will be immortal by 2050.”
“Bit late for me,” Scott quipped. “You might make it.”
Scott, 79, is usually happy to discuss his feelings on technology and extraterrestrial life: last week he was quoted as saying that he believes alien life does exist - and will likely destroy the human race.

"An expert I was talking to at NASA said to me, ‘Have you ever looked in the sky at night? You mean to tell me we are it?’ That’s ridiculous’,” he told Sky.
“When you see a big thing in the sky, run for it. Because they are a lot smarter than we are, and if you are stupid enough to challenge them you will be taken out in three seconds.”
Alien: Covenant has had mixed-to-positive reviews from critics, and is due in cinemas this Friday, May 12.
