'Business is War!' Trailer for McDonald's origin story 'The Founder' lands
THE FOUNDER trailer has arrived starring Birdman lead and Oscar Nominee, Michael Keaton.
Michael Keaton as the controversial Ray Kroc
'One word. Persistence.'
Those are the words of Michael Keaton as Ray Kroc, the sly American businessman, on how he made millions turning someone else's idea into the Super Size franchise that we so know, love and indulge in today.
Directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side, Saving Mr. Banks) this colourful take on the true story looks certain to satisfy.
Joining the former Batman star is a cast that includes Laura Dern, Patrick Wilson and Parks and Rec's very own Nick Offerman as Dick McDonald, surprisingly moustache-less in the trailer.
The plot sees Keaton's Kroc, an Illinois-based Milkshake machine salesman, wheel and deal into taking control of Mac and Dick McDonald's hamburger restaurant in 1950s Southern California, after seeing the profit potential of their 30-second order plan.
Ray takes in what will become his massive empire
Kroc 'founding' McDonald's after stealing the idea
While the start of the trailer has a snappy and fun element to it, it soon turns dark when the financial troubles and business difficulties begin.
"Business is War!" sparks Keaton's Kroc.
The Weinstein Company who are distributing the film are aiming for it to have a similar feel to the backstabbing scheming of There Will Be Blood and The Social Network.
The Founder under his Golden Arches
Whether you see Kroc as a crook or innovator, this character is sure to draw audiences in, Frank Underwood style, with ambitious and controversial statements like:
"MacDonald's can be the new American church. And it ain't just open on Sundays!"
And what with the script by The Wrestler's Robert D. Siegel having been doing the rounds in Tinsel Town, this is surely one to watch for next year's Oscar season.
The Founder is out in August 2016.
