The Gatekeepers: Trailer and review
THE Gatekeepers is a remarkable and thought provoking documentary about Israel’s secret service, Shin Bet, and its role in both combating and fuelling terrorism in the decades following the Six Day War in 1967.
Director Dror Moreh has persuaded all six surviving heads of Shin Bet to participate and speak astonishingly frankly about their actions and the hard choices faced.
One, Avraham Shalom, who led Shin Bet in the 1980’s, compares Israel’s occupation of the West Bank to the Nazi occupation of Europe. Another laments the futility of Israel’s position.
“We win every battle but lose the war.” With plenty of archive footage it’s also a riveting but depressing history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
