Liberal Arts review and trailer
LIBERAL Arts is a harmless but overly self-conscious American indie movie about a bookish 35-year-old, Jesse (Josh Radnor, who directs), who belatedly comes of age after returning to his former college for the retirement dinner of an admired professor (Richard Jenkins).
A meeting of minds ensues with precocious 19-year-old student, Zibby (the lovely Elizabeth Olsen) but will a meeting of bodies?
Radnor is rather stilted as Jesse and much of the dialogue feels affected - scripted to explore a thesis rather than springing organically from convincing characters.
Liberal Arts is overly self-conscious
The narrative is also too sluggish but there are moments of charm and humour.
