Red Hill film review and trailer
Modern-day western Red Hill, set in Australia’s outback, features a terrifying villain - a facially scarred aborigine who escapes from jail and starts shooting up a small town - until a clever twist two-thirds in puts a different spin on his behaviour.
Set over a day and night, the picture is a taut, violent and well crafted shoot ‘em up with a likeable hero, a young married police officer (Ryan Kwanten) on his first day in the job after relocating from the city, and a memorable bad guy in convict Jimmy Conway (Tommy Lewis).
First time writer-director Patrick Hughes shows great promise as a genre filmmaker.
