Avatar director James Cameron congratulates Avengers Endgame on TOPPING all-time record
AVATAR director James Cameron has congratulated Avengers Endgame for dethroning his film as the highest-grossing of all time.

For the last 10 years, Avatar has dominated the top spot as the highest-grossing movie of all time. With a box office run of $2.789 billion, it looked like the 3D sci-fi epic could never be beaten. In fact, Cameron’s Titanic was No 2 for years with over $2 billion too. However, a few months ago Avengers Endgame beat the latter and now has dethroned Avatar as the biggest film of all time with a current taking of $2,790,216,193.
And as is a tradition when this record is broken, the defeated director congratulates the new winner.
This morning James Cameron tweeted from the official Avatar account: “Oel Ngati Kameie, I see you, Marvel.
“Congratulations to Avengers Endgame on becoming the new box office king, Jim Cameron.”

The tweet was accompanied by a picture of Iron Man interacting with creatures from Avatar.
The director wrote a similar message when Avengers Endgame sunk Titanic.
Interestingly, Cameron has previously slammed superhero movies, calling them “hypogonadal.”
He told Indie Wire last year: “I’m hoping we’ll start getting ‘Avenger’ fatigue here pretty soon."
He added “It’s just, come on guys, there are other stories to tell besides hypogonadal males [men who produce too much testosterone] without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process. It’s like, oy!”
"Not that I don't love the [Avengers] movies.”
Meanwhile, it’s possible that Cameron could retake the crown with another Avatar re-release.
The first of his sequels arrives Christmas 2021, and we wouldn’t put it past the director to re-release the original film again beforehand.
