Avengers Endgame box office: Does THIS prove Marvel will NOT top Avatar record after all?
AVENGERS ENDGAME’S box office still hasn’t topped Avatar’s record, but are Marvel fans’ dreams crushed for good?

After the record-breaking opening weekend of $1.2 billion, Avengers Endgame looked set to easily top Avatar’s $2.787 billion. However, the Marvel epic has really slowed down in recent weeks and some box office pundits are wondering if it will top the record after all. As it stands Avengers Endgame has made over $2.742 billion worldwide but still has over $45 million to go. And the latest box office news doesn’t bode well for Endgame’s record-breaking chances.
According to Deadline, Avengers Endgame has fallen out of the box office Top 10 after seven weeks in the chart.
The Marvel epic made just $3.7 million domestically, which isn’t much considering it has almost $50 million more to make worldwide to beat Avatar.
Of course, Avengers Endgame has already topped Titanic, but taking into account inflation, Cameron’s other biggest movie technically made a lot more money.
Adjusted for inflation, Avengers Endgame’s $2.7 billion is still a long way away from matching 1997’s Titanic and 2009’s Avatar.
Titanic really made around $3.099 billion, while Avatar’s equivalent is $3.273 billion.
Even so, the latter isn’t the biggest film of all time with inflation taken into account.
That would be 1939’s Gone with the Wind on $3.728 billion, a feat that will probably never be topped considering today’s battle with online piracy.
Meanwhile, four Avatar sequels are currently in the works, with release dates having been delayed yet again.
Avatar 2 was set to release in December 2020, but will now arrive in time for Christmas 2021.
The other three sequels will follow every two years, with Avatar 5 completing the five-film series in 2027.
This clever marketing move means there will be a Star Wars and Avatar movie on rotation each Christmas from 2021-2027.
