Paige: 'INCREDIBLE' news for WWE star after Fighting With My Family release - 'So awesome'
WWE SUPERSTAR Paige has spoken of her glee after finding out some incredible news about Fighting With My Family, the movie based on her life.
Dwayne Johnson stars in teaser for Fighting With My Family
The film - directed by Stephen Merchant - stars Florence Pugh as it tells the story of Paige’s rise to stardom. On a sea of positive reviews, it has managed to pop at the UK box office - hitting Number One in its first weekend. Screen Daily reports that it made £1.6 million over the three-day period, plus a little under £400,000 from Wednesday and Thursday preview screenings - taking its total to £2 million so far.
It was enough to put it ahead of The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, which made another £1.4 million in its fourth frame.
Paige tweeted: “So awesome that @FightingWMyFam is now number 1 in the UK!! Yay!!
“Thank you so much to everyone! Such an incredible feeling.”
It was the only new release over the weekend to penetrate the Top 5.
Conversely, The Aftermath - starring Keira Knightley - opened to £589,965 after achieving a site average of just £1,047 across its 562 locations.
Irish horror The Hole In The Ground opened to a quiet £96,403.
Elsewhere, there was a post-Oscars boost for many movies; including Best Picture winner Green Book - which returned to the Top 5 with £737,658 across the weekend; a 55.8% jump week-on-week.
The Favourite jumped 64% after Olivia Colman’s Best Actress win; taking an extra £284,606.

Best Animated Feature champion Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse added £97,000 to its UK total, while Best Documentary winner Free Solo surged 160% week-on-week as it raked in £59,178.
Paige has been enthusiastically promoting Fighting With My Family, even rallying behind Pugh when a critic bizarrely said she had “chunky thighs”.
It also stars Nick Frost, Lena Headey, Vince Vaughn, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and writer-director Merchant.
Fighting With My Family is out now.
