AVENGERS ENDGAME directors Joe and Anthony Russo are unsure if they can top Avengers Infinity War.
Avengers: Endgame trailer drops for saga's EPIC finale
It was the highest grossing movie of 2018. And with over $2 billion made at the global box office, Avengers Infinity War is now the fourth most successful film ever made. Almost twenty Marvel movies over a decade were building up to the biggest crossover in cinematic history. But can you believe it was only part one?
This April Avengers Endgame arrives, the follow-up and big finale for the first generation of Avengers.
Infinity War being a tough act to follow is an understatement and in a recent interview directors the Russo Brothers have been asked how they can top it with Endgame.
Speaking with Empire in their February 2019 issue, Joe appeared uncertain saying: “Whether we top Infinity War or not, I don’t know.
“But we try to tell the best story we can with these characters.”
He added: “This is bringing to a close the first decade of stories. I think that alone has a dramatic power to it.”
In the same interview, the Russo also teased that Avengers Endgame would likely be a three-hour movie.
They said: “There’s a high probability that this movie will clock in at around three hours.
“It’s a big movie with a lot of story.”
In comparison, Infinity War was two hours and forty minutes long. Major cinematic releases are rarely over three hours, however, there’s been a few in recent years.
The 70mm version of Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight was three hours and seven minutes, while Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street was exactly three hours.
However, the longest mainstream modern example has to be The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, clocking in at three hours and twenty minutes.
Avengers Endgame will be released in UK cinemas on April 26, 2019.
