Jake Gyllenhaal teases new role in Spider-Man: Far From Home
Before Tom Holland’s Spider-Man debuted in the MCU’s Captain America Civil War, Sony was setting up a Sinister Six movie. The super-villain team – which has had a different roster in Marvel comics over the years – was teased at the end of Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Originally Bad Times at the El Royale director Drew Goddard was set to make the film, having written a script. However, with the Disney deal and reboot for Spidey, the film never happened.
Nevertheless, Sony producer Amy Pascal has told Vanity Fair that a Sinister Six movie is still in the works.
She said: “I’m just waiting for Drew to be ready to direct it. I would do anything with Drew Goddard. I’m just waiting for him to tell me he wants to."
At this stage, it’s not clear if she meant as a non-MCU spin-off like Tom Hardy’s Venom.
The Sinister Six have been teased in the MCU since the mid-credits scenes for Spider-Man Homecoming.
Literally, as the scene begins six birds fly over the prison ceiling window, which Michael Keaton’s Vulture notices just before meeting Scorpion.
Clearly, these two will be a couple of the Sinister Six’s members, while Spider-Man Far From Home is introducing the likes of Mysterio, Hydro-Man and Chameleon.
Spider-Man Far From Home is set for release in July 2019.
