James Bond: Tony Bellew for shock 007 role after Oleksandr Usyk defeat?
TONY BELLEW has said he’d be interested in a James Bond role - could a change in career be ahead after his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk?
Boxer Tony Bellew says he’d ‘love’ to audition to be James Bond
Last night Bellew’s attempt at becoming the first Brit to score four world titles in a weight division ended in failure, as Usyk beat him in the eighth round. But speaking ahead of the match, he said there’s one surprising gig he’d be more than happy to try out for: being Daniel Craig’s replacement as James Bond. “That would be the ultimate dream,” he told Oddschecker, according to the Daily Star.
“If they asked me to come, and said ‘would you audition for Bond’, now that would be something. I’d love to give it a try.
“James Bond is the greatest assassin that has ever been.”
Still, he would likely only accept a tryout if Idris Elba was firmly ruled out.
“I do believe Idris Elba should get it,” he admitted.
“I’d love to see Idris Elba get it. He is an amazing actor. I’m a huge Idris Elba fan.
“When I see him, he must think I’m absolute weirdo. I’m a bit of a fanboy when I see him.
“I love everything he does. I can’t wait for Luther to drop.”
As it stands, Richard Madden remains the bookies’ favourite to take on the iconic role once Daniel Craig’s time is up.
Tom Hiddleston has also had his odds slashed, following news that he’ll be back as Loki for a new Marvel series.
Tom Hardy, James Norton, Sam Heughan and Cillian Murphy also remain in the frame, according to bookmakers.
Craig will be filming the 25th Bond outing next year, ahead of its release in 2020.
Cary Joji Fukunaga will direct it, taking over from Danny Boyle.
James Bond 25 is out on February 14, 2020.
