The Book of Dust: His Dark Materials second trilogy announced by author Philip Pullman
HIS DARK MATERIALS author Philip Pullman has announced a new trilogy called The Book of Dust.
The Northern Lights can be seen in luxury from the treetops
The first book in the new trilogy comes 17 years after the last book in the series, The Amber Spyglass.
Pullman has revealed the new sets of novels are neither prequels or sequels, but “equels” set around the same time.
Speaking with BBC Radio 4, he said: “It's an equel.
“It's a different story which begins roughly 10 years before His Dark Materials and ends roughly 10 years after."

2007's The Golden Compass was the film adaption of Northern Lights
Pullman continued: “At the centre of The Book Of Dust is the struggle between a despotic and totalitarian organisation, which wants to stifle speculation and inquiry, and those who believe thought and speech should be free.”
The new trilogy won’t directly focus on Lyra Belacua, but the author did give a hint on the main protagonist.
He didn’t want to give any plot away, but said that “an ordinary boy” from early on in the story will return as the lead character.
This new screen adaptation follows 2007’s The Golden Compass film, which didn’t complete the trilogy after a disappointing box office performance and poor reviews.
The first novel in The Book of Dust trilogy will be published on October 19, 2017.
