The Human Wrongs Act
ABOLISHING the criminals' charter that masquerades under the name of the Human Rights Act and replacing it with a legal framework that balances rights and responsibilities would be a huge advance.
Home Secretary Theresa May is clearly eager to do so and only the presence of Liberal Democrats in government is preventing her from getting on with the job right away.
In an ideal world the Conservatives will not have to rely on Lib Dem MPs in the next parliament. But if they do they should hold a referendum on this policy - and see whether the Tory position or the Lib Dem one prevails.
The era of human rights for criminals at the expense of those for the lawabiding would be swept away by a landslide.
