Les Dawson as funny as ever
SOME 20 years ago, just two weeks before he was due to enjoy one of his career’s highest accolades – topping the bill in An Audience With... – Les Dawson died suddenly at the age of 59.
Tracey smiled through her tears as “Les” appeared on stage, smilingly launching into one of his best known routines.
On Sunday evening, using the ultimate in state-of-the-art hologram technology and with the support of Les’s widow Tracey and daughter Charlotte, a TV company brought the comedian to all intents and purposes back to life.
Charlotte, who was a baby when her father died, gasped, clutched a hankie and clung to her mum.
Tracey smiled through her tears as “Les” appeared on stage, smilingly launching into one of his best known routines.
We in the audience, lumps in our throats, tears coursing down our cheeks, remembered just how belly-achingly brilliant an adornment to all our lives Les Dawson was. The show is due to be broadcast on June 1, ITV 1.
