Such a fuss over Fireman Sam’s jokey remark
DAVID Jones who created the children’s character Fireman Sam was detained by security at Gatwick airport because he was said to have made a racist remark.
All that happened was that a Muslim woman passed through with her head and face covered while he had to place his scarf in a tray. So he joked about what would happen if he was wearing his scarf over his head.
Some utterly silly little grievance-monger claimed she was “offended” and Mr Jones was held for an hour during which – good for him! – he refused to apologise.

One might think that an airport security organisation had greater things to worry about.
Officials should have laughed at the joke, told the woman to get a life and asked Mr Jones to write an autograph for their children.
Failing that a cautionary word would have been sufficient.
So can we have the name of the complainant so that she can be publicly laughed to scorn?
