The Without You hitmaker took to the stage just hours after learning of Prince's death and she requested a moments silence from the crowd, as she remembered the late superstar.
She explained: “Rather than just make everyone bleak we should just take him and honour him because he was a friend to me too.
“He talked me through some times when I really, really needed somebody and he was incredible person if you never did get to meet him.
“I’m sure his music has touched every single person in here so let’s have a moment of silence for Prince if we could, please.”
She then dedicated her song One Sweet Day to the Purple Rain singer.

Prince died yesterday aged 57 after being found in the elevator of his Paisley Park mansion in Minneapolis and a post-mortem examination will take place later today.
Medical staff tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson confirmed. A cause of death was not immediately determined and police are investigating.

Prince has died aged 57
The singer had been taken ill on April 15 while flying home from a show in Atlanta, Georgia.
Prince's private jet made an emergency landing in Molina, Illinois, and he was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance, where he was treated and released hours later.
At the time, a representative for Prince assured fans he was feeling much better and was resting at his home. He then made an appearance at a dance party held at his estate where he told fans: "Just wait a few days before saying your prayers."
But less than a week later paramedics were called to 7801 Audobon Road after a 911 call at 9.43am. Medics tried CPR but could not revive the singer, who was pronounced dead at 10.07am.
