The 24-year-old professional tennis player admitted today that he and the 28-year-old Russian beauty have decided to call time on their romance.
Grigor said simply that the couple had "split paths" just two weeks after Maria was defeated by his former flame Serena Williams at Wimbledon.
The Bulgarian athlete said: "Our paths split. We experienced wonderful moments together.
"I wish her much happiness and success in life and in tennis. Now I'm concentrated entirely on the game and I'm sure the results will soon be seen.

"This is the summer of the new beginning for me," he added.
The tennis power couple struck up a relationship two years ago and announced that they were together in May 2013, and share homes in Florida and California.
Blonde beauty Maria previously gushed about the sporting pair's close relationship.
"It's nice to have someone who really understands and respects [what I do] and knows the drill," she said.

"There are so many little variants in an athlete's career that are not always easy to explain to the outside world. So it is nice that they are aware of it and know it."
But the cracks were beginning to show when she escaped with a female friend to Montenegro earlier this week – shunning the company of her beau.
Maria kept her fans updated during her break via her Instagram page, showing off her gym-honed physique in a number of scantily-clad bikini shots.
Boasting about how gleeful she was, she captioned one of the photos: "As if it couldn't get any better… really Montenegro #Nature #People #Happiness."
