Davina McCall opens up about heartbreak as she gives rare update on family life

Davina McCall, a stalwart of British television for over three decades and recent recipient of the Special Recognition Award at the National Television Awards, has always kept her family life relatively private.

Despite her high-profile career, Davina's three children have shied away from the limelight, making it all the more delightful when she shares rare glimpses into her family life.

The beloved presenter, 56, co-parents her children with former husband Matthew Robertson, 53, also a TV personality. The couple, who parted ways in 2017 after 17 years of marriage, share daughter Holly, 22, Tilly, 21, who is currently residing in Australia, and son Chester, 17.

Davina, known for her passion for fitness, recently posted heartwarming beach photos with Tilly, highlighting the close bond despite the distance. On her podcast, she expressed her emotions about her daughter's move: "I wept all the way back from the airport, obviously! But wept with pride, I think, pride and joy to see her skip off looking so happy and excited about this new chapter and where that might take her."

She further reflected on her parenting philosophy with evident pride: "My aim has always been to give my children wings, so they're confident enough to go and do whatever they want to do. Obviously the reality of that will be... quiet. I quite enjoy the chaos. But I'd much rather they went off confidently than clung on to my legs and never wanted to leave."

Davina McCall recently took to Instagram with heartfelt pride, sharing snapshots alongside Holly to celebrate her graduation from Newcastle University. The star expressed her emotions: "Just arrived back from a very emotional few days in Newcastle. Where my daughter Holly has been at the brilliant @newcastleuni for the past 4 years."

She continued to reflect on the significance of the occasion: "She graduated on Wednesday, and it was huge for her in so many ways. Huge, because it was the end of an era, but the beginning of another. Her wonderful friends will all be going off around the country... and she is leaving this wonderful city that we've all rather fallen in love with."

At the NTAs, where Davina received a lifetime achievement award, she couldn't hide her joy: "I love my job... I feel so privileged to be able to share it with you."

In an emotional conclusion to her acceptance speech, Davina shared a touching tribute to her partner, celebrity hair stylist Michael Douglas: "I love being on this journey with you. You make me a better person and you make me so happy. Thank you."

The couple's romance blossomed back in 2019, having met through their connections in the entertainment industry.
