Dame Helen expects being 70 will be awesome
SHE TURNS 70 on Sunday, and Dame Helen Mirren says she loves ageing as her youth was spent being “paranoid and miserable” about her looks.
AGE CANNOT WITHER HER: Dame Helen
The Oscar-winner, who was the face of a L’Oreal Age Perfect campaign last year, insists getting older has freed her from being preoccupied with superficial things.
“I used to worry a lot more about my looks than I do now,” said the veteran actress.
When you’re young and beautiful, you’re paranoid and miserable
“When you’re young and beautiful, you’re paranoid and miserable.
“I think the great advantage of getting older is that you let go of certain things.”
The Queen star, who made headlines when she was pictured on a beach in Puglia, Italy, in 2008 looking striking and youthful in a red bikini, has previously touched on the topic of getting older in her industry.
“I don’t often wish that I’m younger because I think that it is pretty cool to be older,” said Helen, who says sexism and ageism in Hollywood is “outrageous”.
“What I love the most about being older is that lovely feeling that I don’t give a damn about that kind of thing.
“Your 40s are good. Your 50s are great. Your 60s are fab. And 70 is awesome. I’m not quite there yet but almost.”
Dame Helen is currently starring in thriller Eye In The Sky and Trumbo a biopic of the Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo.
