Tears stream down Avril's face as she discusses Lyme disease
It's been around two years since the 30-year-old singer was first diagnosed with the illness, but it still plays a huge part in her life.
Speaking out on today's Good Morning America, Avril couldn't hide her emotion as she revealed just how much the disease had affected her, attempting to speak as tears streamed down her face.
Explaining that doctors and nurses had tried to encourage her to "get out of bed and play the piano" Avril explained that simple things like that weren't as easy as everyone made out.
She sobbed: "This is my second shot at life."

Speaking to ABC's Jesse Palmer, the Complicated hitmaker added: "I'm about halfway through my treatment. I'm doing a lot better.
"Seeing a lot of progress... I'm just really grateful to know that I will make [a] 100 percent recovery."
Lyme disease is the debilitating bacterial infection that comes from a tick bite and it left Avril bedridden for five months.
"I literally became bedridden last October," the Canadian star said.
"They would pull up their computer and be like, 'Chronic fatigue syndrome.' Or, 'Why don't you try to get out of bed, Avril, and just go play the piano?' It's like, 'Are you depressed?' This went on and off for a month," she explained.

The blonde singer also said that it took doctors eight months of searching before they finally found out what the real cause was.
"I saw my doctor right away, got blood tests, got swabbed, and they didn't really know what was wrong with me," she continued.
"I started going to other doctors and specifically telling them and asking, 'I have Lyme disease. I know I do. Can you check me?' Then I finally figured out, 'Find a Lyme specialist.'"
Despite her suffering, Avril has decided to speak openly about her battle with the illness in the hope that she'll be helping others who are going through exactly the same thing.
