Beatles guitar sells for more than $400,000 in New York auction
A GUITAR played by John Lennon and George Harrison has sold for $408,000 (£265,435) in New York.
The Vox guitar was played by Harrison while practicing “I am the Walrus” during The Magical Mystery Tour and by Lennon while recording a video session for “Hello, Goodbye.”
The instrument, which was built by by Mike Bennett and Dickey Denney, was gifted to Beatles friend “Magic Alex” Mardas by John Lennon in 1967.
More than 450 items of music memorabilia were auctioned off at the Music Icons event held at the Hard Rock Cafe New York.
Other notable pieces included Elvis Presley’s trousers worn in “Jailhouse Rock” which sold for $12,500 (£8,000), Conway Twitty’s 1957 Gretsch guitar for $23,750 (£15,500) and a David Cassidy stage worn jumpsuit, for which someone paid $18,750 (£12,000).
There were also items from Michael Jackson, Bette Midler, and the Rolling Stones.
