Def Leppard tune into rug 'n' roll
FOOTBALL-MAD Sheffield rockers Def Leppard are now the proud sponsors of a children’s rugby team – by mistake.
The group’s front man Joe Elliot was talked into helping Cardiff-based under-10s side Rhiwbina Squirrels RFC by team coach Richard Proctor, who also does artwork for the band.
Joe admits that he had assumed Richard was talking about a football team but now the Squirrels have “Def Leppard” uniquely emblazoned on their shirts and the legendary band are supporting them all the way.
“Richard is a long-time friend of mine,” says Joe, 53.
“When he told me he needed a sponsor I jumped at the chance.
“Only afterwards did I realise it was a rugby team! I’m not sure it’s going to guarantee a winning team every week but at least they look cool.”
