Sarah Brightman to sing with the Earth
WHEN Sarah Brightman blasts off to the International Space Station in two years’ time, we have a feeling space won’t know what has hit it.
The singer is currently training in Houston, Texas, and in Star City, Russia, for the 10-day adventure and has big plans for her unusual holiday.
Sarah says she wants to hook up with singers back on terra firma for a unique performance.
The Starship Trooper tells The Lady: “I would like to connect with the Earth through music, because I am a musician after all.
“There’s nearly a two-second delay when you’re connected from orbit but I’m sure that can be worked out, and I can sing with someone who’s singing from the Earth, or perhaps a children’s choir.”
Sarah admits that she’s had a job convincing her worried mum Paula that her trip with American company Space Adventures will be worth the possible dangers.
“It took a long time for her to get her head around it,” explains Sarah. “She felt, ‘Why take the risk?’”
But the singer explains it’s something she just has to do – and the tough training is going well.
“I had an absolute need to go, and felt huge relief when I discovered I could,” she says.
“I’ve learnt that I can go much further both mentally and physically. I’m a lot stronger than I thought.”
