Cameron Douglas loses appeal
THE troubled son of Michael Douglas has lost his appeal to have his sentence for drug dealing and possession reduced.
Cameron Douglas, 34, was facing a 10-year sentence in 2010 for dealing but it was reduced to five after he cooperated with authorities.
I think he has a chance to start a new life and he knows that.
However, after being found with drugs in prison, another four-and-a-half-years was added on to his sentence, a decision that still stands after the appeal’s failure.
Michael, 68, was a regular attendee at the New York court during his son’s trial and hoped prison would benefit him, saying he “was going to be dead or somebody was gonna kill him. I think he has a chance to start a new life and he knows that.”
Cameron’s lawyer Paul Shechtman claims the sentence “maybe the harshest sentence ever imposed on a federal prisoner for a drug possession offence”.
