Simon Cowell and Paula Radcliffe lead the celebs paying tribute to Boston via Twitter
AS news of the Boston bombings sunk in last night, stars such as Simon Cowell and athlete Paula Radcliffe took to Twitter to express their condolences.
Radcliffe, 39, who obviously holds the Marathon close to her heart was shocked upon hearing the terrible news and tweeted: "Horrified to hear news of bomb explosion near Boston marathon finish. Really hope there are no serious casualties."
She went on to say: "Situation looks awful, thoughts with everyone. There are some very sick people out there, who would do something like this?"
Another sports person to express their sadness was Olympic champion Mo Farah, who posted: "The @FarahFoundation is thinking of all those in Boston today xx @Mo_Farah"
Music mogul Cowell couldn't help but share his thoughts on Twitter too, and posted: "Watching the news. Horrendous. Please god no more bombs. Stay safe America."
Hollywood stars, who were born in Boston, also took to their Twitter pages to express their shock and sadness at what had happened in the city where they grew up.
'Ted' star Mark Wahlberg, who attended the New York premiere of his new film 'Pain and Gain' despite not wanting to, posted late last night: "Thoughts and prayers with my hometown Boston today."
Meanwhile, 'Captain America' star Chris Evans wrote: "Thoughts and prayers are with everybody in boston. heartbreaking..."
Movie director and actor, Eli Roth, took to his page to write: "Thoughts and prayers for everyone in Boston. Can't believe what I'm reading. Stay safe."
Other US stars who took to their Twitter accounts to share their thoughts included TV host Ellen DeGeneres, who wrote: "Let's all send our thoughts, our prayers and our energy to the people injured in Boston. My heart is with you."
Pregnant reality TV star Kim Kardashian also expressed her condolences, writing: "My heart is breaking for everyone effected or injured in the explosion at the Boston Marathon. God bless you all! My prayers are with you!"
Another female celebrity who felt the effects of what happened last night was Kelly Osbourne, who tweeted: "Praying for #Boston."
The FBI are now investigating the devastating event which saw two explosions go off at the finish line of the Boston marathon.
