And the award for best autographs...
A STAGEHAND’S collection of autographs of every star to win an Oscar from 1929 until last year is expected to sell for more than £10,000 at auction.
The signatures include those of Hollywood greats Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Katherine Hepburn and Grace Kelly, plus Britain’s Michael Caine, Daniel Day-Lewis and Sean Connery.
MGM production worker Bill Seitz amassed about 320 autographs, mostly on photographs, through his access to screen idols from Charlton Heston to Marlon Brando, and Elizabeth Taylor to Joan Crawford, throughout his long career.
His collection includes every Best and Best Supporting actor and actress since the Academy Awards began in 1929. Auction chief Martin Nolan said: “It was Bill’s pastime and his goal and his collection goes from the early greats to modern day stars such as George Clooney and Angelina Jolie.
“It is a fantastic history of our greatest actors and actresses who have given us some of the most memorable movie performances of all time.”
The sale at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills begins today.
