Julian Fellowes: I won't write the rest of Downton Abbey
DOWNTON ABBEY writer Julian Fellowes is working on a new US television series titled Gilded Age and has admitted this may spell the end to his involvement with his hugely popular British period drama.
Speaking to the New York Times, Julian, 63, explains he may have to pass on the torch to a new set of writers. “If Downton goes on – and that’s not my decision – then it would be with other writers. Perhaps with me supervising but with other writers.
“If I’m doing a series at NBC I would not be able to write all of Downton and all of that series at the same time.” Julian also dashes fans’ hopes that Lady Mary and Mr Bates won’t be on our screens forever.
“My belief is that these things have a life and one of the tricks is to recognise when it’s time to come to an end.
“But we haven’t made a decision when that will be. Some things go on for 20 years but I don’t see Downton being one of them.”
