Russian appeals court dismisses Madonna lawsuit
Appeals court officials in Russia have upheld a previous ruling rejecting a £6.5 million lawsuit filed against MADONNA for allegedly promoting homosexuality at a concert in St. Petersburg last summer (12).
The Material Girl came under fire from conservative activists in August (12) after speaking out in favour of gay rights - reportedly violating a local law banning same-sex "propaganda" - and nine protesters joined forces to launch legal action against the pop superstar, only to have their case dismissed following a court hearing in November (12).
The plaintiffs challenged the decision and took their argument to St. Petersburg City court - but judges stood by the ruling this week (begs04Feb13) and rejected the suit.
