Lynyrd Skynyrd scrap concert over encroaching hurricane
Rockers LYNYRD SKYNYRD cancelled a concert at the Republican National Convention in Florida on Sunday (26Aug12) due to the threat of a tropical storm.
The band was slated to perform at the Liberty Plaza in Tampa as part of the convention for members of America's Republican party, but the appearance was scrapped due to fears of the dangers of Hurricane Isaac, which is expected to hit the U.S. Gulf coast later this week (begs27Aug12).
A statement from frontman Johnny Van Zant reads, "With the weather conditions unknown and for the safety of our fans and friends, it is best to cancel the show and not put anyone in harm's way."
Scheduled concerts by Trace Adkins, Kid Rock and Journey are still expected to go ahead.
