Brian May reveals he had a minor stroke in 2024

Queen legend Brian May, 77, has "never been happier" according to his wife EastEnders star Anita Dobson, 75, who opened up about her husband months after he suffered a "scary" stroke in August 2024. The star, who recently reprised her role as Angie Watts in the BBC soap as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations, admitted the couple didn't have the best start to 2025 when they both caught the flu. However speaking in mid January she said: "Brian is stable now. Brian has never been happier since we moved."

Brian and Anita moved from their £7million home in Kensington in London to Windlesham in Surrey following a basement flood which ruined childhood photo albums and memorabilia. Admitting the transition to their new home, 25 miles away, was more of a shock for her, Anita said Brian “loves” their new lifestyle, and is keeping busy feeding all of the animals living around them".

Revealing they had some upcoming travel plans she added: "Apart from that we are just chilling at the moment and spending time at home is quite good."

Reflecting on Brian's stroke, she told The Sun: “It makes you realise that at any minute it could be you. You don’t have to necessarily be old, it could be anyone.”

Brian broke the news of his stroke on September 4 last year with an Instagram video. "I’m here to bring you first of all some news, I think. The good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days.

“I say this because it was in some doubt because that little health hiccup happened about a week ago. What they called it was a ‘minor stroke’.

“All of a sudden, out of the blue, I didn’t have any control over this arm, so it was a little scary.

“I had the most fantastic care and attention from Frimley Hospital; blue lights flashing the lot, very exciting.

“I didn’t want to say anything at the time because I didn’t want anything surrounding, you know. I really don’t want sympathy, please don’t do that because it will clutter up my inbox.

“The good news is I’m ok and doing what I’m told which is basically nothing, I’m grounded, I’m not allowed to go out, drive, get on a plane, I’m not allowed to raise the heart rate too high. But I am good,” he said at the time.
