Phillip Schofield has been left heartbroken following the death of his mother, Pat, sharing the tragic news with his 2.7million followers on Instagram on Monday night.

Just weeks after his TV comeback on Channel 5's Cast Away, the grieving broadcaster released an emotional statement alongside photographs with his mother.

He wrote: "Today, at 3pm and after a heartbreaking weekend, my magnificent mum decided it was time to go to her beloved Brian. Over three days, we held her, loved her, hugged her and said everything that needed to be said. She was calm, peaceful, beautiful and dignified. I will forever be proud and privileged that she was my mum."

Phillip went on to express profound gratitude to the healthcare professionals who looked after his mum: "Our eternal thanks to the paramedics, Treliske AandE and Critical Care team who have been, in the past and this weekend, my mum's and our angels. Your love and care has been our saviour."

He also shared more fond images and a remarkable video of Pat wing-walking, with Phillip noting, "God I loved her for wanting to do this," adding that she was "One of the oldest ever ladies to wing walk".

Following Phillip's heartfelt announcement, his daughter Molly paid an emotional tribute to her late grandmother. On Instagram Stories, she reposted her father's message with a broken-heart emoji and then shared a touching photo of herself and sister Ruby with Pat, captioning it: "Love you so much Bo," and poignantly added: "Give a huge kiss to Bri when you see him."

Her sister Ruby also paid tribute, writing: "We will miss you so much Bo. Love you more than yesterday and less than tomorrow. Bri has been waiting for you, give him the biggest hug for us.

Molly and Ruby recently graced our screens on the Channel 5 series Cast Away, as their father Phillip made a comeback more than a year after his sensational departure from This Morning in May 2023. His exit coincided with his confession of an "unwise but not illegal" relationship with a younger colleague at ITV.

In his resignation letter, he expressed remorse for misleading others about the affair and acknowledged that the "consensual on-off relationship" had concluded. Despite the scandal, Phillip, who publicly came out as gay four years ago, has enjoyed steadfast support from his family, including daughters Molly, 31, and Ruby, 28, whom he shares with Stephanie Lowe.

The three-part series Cast Away featured both Molly and Ruby, along with Stephanie, with scenes from a family barbecue at their home. During her appearance, Molly spoke candidly about her bond with her father and expressed her hopes that the public would embrace him once again.

She said: "When my dad came out it was very hard for me. It was very hard for the entire family. Mainly my mum, of course - everything was turned upside down. But we talked through it and [over time] it's got easier.

"My mum and my sister, we're all the same. We'll always continue to support him, no matter what. I never thought it would have gone the way it has."

On her family connections, Molly said she considers herself the "luckiest person" because her parents stayed "best friends" throughout the turmoil.

Molly said: "We've seen him at his lowest times, but I've been so proud of him, and as a daughter to see the love that people had for him that when it's taken away it's just heartbreaking...I would love people to understand what's actually happened."
