DIY SOS star Nick Knowles has become a national treasure after his brilliant ideas and determination have helped thousands of people across Britain - however, they have not all gone to plan and there have been many catastrophes. Nick, 62, has hosted the popular show since it landed on the network back in 1999.

This comes after the presenter was forced to pull out of the Strictly Come Dancing live show following an injury he sustained during training. The BBC staple has touched the hearts of many bringing communities together.

At times left viewers have been reduced to tears over jaw-dropping transformations. But there have also been countless disasters which have left households furious at the network.

The Express.co.uk have taken a look back at some of the biggest calamities during the programme’s history. Back in February 2020, Nick headed down to Cheltenham where they went on a quest to help the Chapman family.

However, they have since claimed their home was wrecked and have been forced to move out. They said they’ve been living in "hell" for the past couple of years.

Peter Chapman, 64, is a full-time carer for his ill wife Sarah, daughter Suzanne and autistic brother.

Despite their best efforts to transform the bungalow and make it more accessible for his wheelchair-bound wife, Peter said there were numerous errors with the work falling down around them.

It has been said that Peter has been involved in a bitter row for over three years over claims the show carried out errors after tradespeople caused £30,000 of destruction.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the BBC offered him £15,000 which he refused after saying it would not come close to covering the cost of the repairs.

He is moving to the US to join his son, who has lived there for 20 years, and make a fresh start following the ordeal.

Despite Nick and his trusted team transforming the lives of the Hutchinson’s, down in Northampton back in 2019 they have wished they never signed up for the show.

The Hutchinson’s were one of the most deserving families the show has ever helped but were tragically forced to come off social media and change their phone numbers due to the brutal abuse they received.

But post-production of their show was held up due to the Covid pandemic with people thinking they would no longer appear and claiming that they had sold the home and jetted to Dubai.

Thankfully it was broadcast with Jackie telling BBC Radio Northampton: “I'm just thankful that it is going on air, and people can see that we are very much still loving every second of our life in our home, and we will never, ever be selling our house.”
