Amy Winehouse, who tragically passed away in 2011 from alcohol poisoning, made a haunting admission to her doctor just hours before her death.

The iconic singer was just 27 when she was discovered deceased at her Camden residence on 23 July. Amy, globally known for her soulful voice, had been struggling with substance abuse for years, and had resumed drinking shortly before her death.

The evening before her fatal drinking spree, Amy was visited by her doctor, Christina Romete, who recounted her conversation with the singer during that visit.

She revealed that Amy, who would have been 40 today (September 10) had confessed to relapsing into drinking after a significant period of sobriety. In their final conversation, Amy acknowledged the gravity of her situation as she confessed: "I don't want to die".

Dr. Romete disclosed that Amy had been taking Librium, a medication to manage withdrawal symptoms from alcohol. Despite her vulnerable state, Amy declined any psychological help, which Dr. Romete attributed to Amy's concern that it might stifle her artistic expression.

At the inquest, Dr. Romete expressed her admiration for Amy's intellect, branding her "one of the most intelligent young women I've ever met." Reflecting on their last encounter, Dr. Romete described Amy as "calm and somewhat guilty", slightly intoxicated but still capable of engaging in conversation.

Amy was adamant about controlling her life and treatment, as Dr. Romete noted: "She was very determined to do everything her way, including her therapy. She had very strict views on that."

Amy relapsed just days before her untimely death, it was revealed during the inquest, while the late singer confessed to her doctor that she had started drinking again.

When questioned about quitting alcohol, Amy was reportedly uncertain, responding: "I don't know." Since their first meeting, Dr Romete regularly warned Amy of the dangers of alcohol abuse.

She said: "The advice I had given to Amy over a long period of time was verbal and in written form about all the effects alcohol can have on the system, including respiratory depression and death, heart problems, fertility problems and liver problems."

Assistant deputy coroner Suzanne Greenaway concluded at the London inquest that Winehouse died from "accidental alcohol poisoning", labelling the cause as death by misadventure. Greenaway stated: "She had consumed sufficient alcohol and the unintended consequence of such potentially fatal levels was her sudden and unexpected death."

The court heard that Amy's blood contained 416mg of alcohol per 100ml, surpassing the lethal threshold of 350mg. Additionally, investigators found three vodka bottles
