Countryfile is back on screens tonight (August 11) and while the leading presenter is happy on air with his animals, he's faced a tough time away from the camera in recent years.

Back in 2021, BBC star Adam Henson was hit with the devastating news that his wife had pancreative cancer shortly after she discovered the news.

His wife Charlie, 57, made the decision not to call her husband straight away after the GP rang her with results following a scan in 2021 after she experienced symptoms.

Speaking to The Telegraph last year, Charlie explained that she was told by the GP it was "very serious" and had a low survival rate.

But after discovering the news, she decided not to ring her BBC star husband, who was working away at the time.

Charlie told the publication: "I decided not to ring Adam. He was working and what could he do? My mum lives five minutes away, and she and Pete, her partner of many years, came straight over."

She explained that she was in "absolute hell" and couldn't process it.

Charlie continued: "The day passed in a blur of booking more tests and appointments. Eventually Adam rang from the airport as he was waiting to fly home and I told him."

He said: "I knew I needed to be strong and support Charlie and the kids but how do you do that? I had to try and find a way to get us through this nightmare."

Charlie told the publication that her scans had since been clear and the duo have remained open on the challenges they faced during that time.

Charlie later told The Mirror that she had become "complacent" in her relationship, but things changed after the diagnosis.

She has been in recovery since her final surgery.
